New career in cleaning services
Yevheniia from Ukraine doesn’t understand why people don’t apply to work in cleaning services. She used to work as a journalist in her home country but fell in love with cleaning job when she arrived in Finland. She can see her future in the field.
”I have learned so much and I’m much more professional in my work.”
Yevheniia, student
Education in English for Further Vocational Qualification in Cleaning and Property Services started at Adult Education Centre Turku (Turun AKK) in January 2023. Yevheniia is the first student to graduate from the education. She came to Finland in March 2022 and got a job in ship cleaning within two months. It wasn’t too long before she was promoted to be a supervisor and her bosses suggested that she should apply for the education.
”I was so happy to join the education”, she tells joyfully. She says that this was a great opportunity to improve her competence even though she didn’t know Finnish that much. She states that people from other countries can be really talented workers but they are insecure because of the lack of Finnish language skills. The possibility to study and work in English opens great opportunity for them to join the Finnish working life.
The best thing about cleaning in Yevheniia’s opinion are the happy customers. ”I love to see customers happy, for example, when I have cleaned their office”, she tells gratefully. Her studies took eight months and now she glows with confidence. ”I have learned so much and I’m much more professional in my work. I pay attention to details and have many points of view”.
Yevheniia reveals that she was afraid to start in whole new profession but feels that cleaning services was a good place to start. She also states that combining work and studies was the best way to learn. ”It was nice to learn new things at school and try them out at work the next day”.
